JENKINTOWN, Pennsylvania (GBT) — Family historian and webmaster Tim G. upgraded his Y-DNA analysis from Y-37 to the "Big Y" Y-700 test on September 5th of last week. When FamilyTreeDNA extended its summer sale from August 31st to September 6th, it was decided take the savings opportunity.
Advantages of the Y-700 test over the Y-37 test include 111 STR markers, 400K+ SNP sequencing, and confirmed haplogroups both distant and recent for improved matching. The meaning of all this is currently unclear to Tim, but he hopes to understand more as results are revealed.
"Well, I didn't get to go on any trips this summer, like I usually do, and I usually put a decent amount of money into that, so figured I'd put that money into the DNA analysis instead," said Tim G. "I wasn't satisfied with having a predicted haplogroup. If I'm about to go online and tell people all about my ancestry, I'm gonna want that jawn to be confirmed correct."
Results of the Y-700 analysis are expected by the end of September. ⬮
