Sid Flick Discography Emerges on Discogsâ„¢

JENKINTOWN, Pennsylvania (GBT) — The discography of Sid Flick is emerging on Discogs, an online music collecting aid and marketplace. In early 2017, when Tim G. first used the service, musical releases documented on Flick's Discogs profile numbered five or six. Today, that number is at seventeen, and is expected to grow as website volunteers refine the site's massive database.

Founded in late 2000, Discogs currently contains contains datover 15.1 million releases, by over 8 million artists, across over 1.8 million labels, contributed from over 628,000 contributor user accounts—with these figures constantly growing as users continually add previously unlisted releases to the site over time. Family historian and GBT webmaster Tim G. joined Discogs on December 31, 2016 in order to catalog his personal vinyl collection, which now numbers at an estimated 2000 volumes. The process of cataloging a vinyl record collection on Discogs entails adding new releases and modifying existing releases. User edits are often revised and occasionally voted upon by other users to create a crowdsourced encyclopedia of recorded music.

In Sid Flick's case, releases are added to his Discogs discography when writer's credits are properly added to the songs he wrote. Many of Flick's releases already exist in the Discogs database, but do not show up in Flick's discography because the writer's credits were either not included or they were not linked to Flick's artist profile. Site users may build Flick's online Discogs discography by adding or modifying the writer's credits on Flick's existing releases. Some of Flick's other releases have yet to be added to the Discogs database. Adding new releases to the database entails entering more detailed information, including artist, label, catalog numbers, and year of release. Although not strictly required, photos of the physical record labels may be added to assist record collectors and website users in identifying their releases.

Discogs is free and open to all users. In addition to serving as both an encyclopedia of recorded music and a record collector's aide and database, the site also serves a marketplace. Of the seventeen Sid Flick releases currently listed in his discography, fifteen are currently available for sale through the site. Some titles are rarer than others, and prices range from under $2 to around $45. To give buyers a sense of proper valuation, Discogs tracks the last twenty sales of every title it sells and, if the data is available, it reports the lowest, the median, and the highest sale prices.  Full valuation for Sid Flick's releases is currently sparse, but that's bound to change once the world learns of his genius. ?
