Although a heavy workload at my day job these past couple months have once again precluded extensive Find-A-Grave activity, I managed again to take several photographs at Abington Friends Cemetery in Jenkintown while out on my usual errands.
Most noteworthy among the graves photographed over the past month is that of Henry Faulkner, III, who owned and operated a number of auto dealerships in the Philadelphia metropolitan area as head of the Faulkner Automotive Group. Mr. Faulkner's grandfather, Henry Faulkner, Sr., started the family business in 1932. Henry Faulkner, III, joined the business is 1974, expanded it in 1981, and operated it until his death from melanoma in 2003, at the age of 53. Most Philadelphians are familiar with Faulkner's motto, "To Be Sure," which has adorned TV spots, radio spots, and license plate frames for decades. (Source: Inquirer.)
Also photographed last month was the grave of Elizabeth F. Williams, who was instrumental in the development of USA Field Hockey. Ms. Williams coached 25 undefeated teams in lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, and softball at the University of Pennsylvania over the past four decades, and coached Canada in the 1986 World Cup among many other sporting accomplishments. Ms. Willams has been inducted in both the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the University of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. She died in September of 2014 at the age of 86.
