RootsTech 2022

JENKINTOWN, Pennsylvania (GBT) â€” Tim G. registered for RootsTech 2022 last week. RootsTech is one of the nation's largest and most popular annual genealogy conferences, and has been informing and inspiring genealogists of all skill levels since 2011. Organized by FamilySearch International, the conference has traditionally taken place at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference was held as a free online event in 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of in-person events across the nation. Tim G. attended portions of last year's the event, and hopes to participate more in this year's event, which will take place during March 3-5.

Keynote speakers for this year's RootsTech include American actor Matthew Modine, Ghanaian boxer Samuel Azumah Nelson, French baker Apollonia Poilane, and Argentine singer Diego Torres. Ancestry's expert genealogist Crista Cowan will return this year to offer Ancestry®'s annual update, and April's release of the 1950 United States census will surely take center stage in a number of presentations. A full calendar of the event is available on FamilySearch.org.

Relatives at RootsTech will be one of the online event's most attractive features. Attendees who opt in and have placed themselves in FamilySearch's global family tree will be added to an interactive list of attendees for whom the tree shows a family relationship. At the time of this writing, 213 of Tim G.'s relatives have joined Relatives, the closest of whom are a 2nd cousin once removed descended from William and Elizabeth Smith, and a 3rd cousin once removed descended from Louis and Esther Anflick. Most of Tim G. registered cousins at RootsTech are descended from Daniel and Harriet Allen. Their daughter, Maria Allen, converted to Mormonism in emigrated from Walsall, Staffordshire, England to Utah in the late 1860s. The Mormon church, also known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, operates FamilySearch International and encourages its members to participate in genealogical research.ʉ¨
